Suyash Sharma was born on May 15, 2003, in Bhajanpura, a neighbourhood in North East Delhi, India. From a young age, he was passionate about cricket. He began playing at local clubs like the Madras Club and participated in Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) tournaments. His coach, Suresh Batra, played a significant role in shaping his bowling skills, especially his leg-spin and googly deliveries.
Domestic Cricket Journey
Suyash’s talent was recognized early when he was selected to play for Dena Bank in the DDCA league. Despite facing challenges, including missing out on the Delhi Under-19 team due to documentation issues, he persevered. With support from former cricketer Kartar Nath and DDCA President Rohan Jaitley, he eventually secured a spot in Delhi’s Under-25 team. He made his List A debut for Delhi on November 23, 2023, against Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking 3 wickets for just 19 runs.
Indian Premier League (IPL) Career
In December 2022, Suyash was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹20 lakhs during the IPL auction. He made his IPL debut on April 6, 2023, against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he impressed everyone by taking 3 wickets and helping his team secure an 81-run victory. His performance was one of the best for a debutant spinner in IPL history the 2023 IPL season, he played 10 matches and took 10 wickets. Although his opportunities were limited in the 2024 season, he remained a promising talent.
